Nuke Creative is...

...the first cup of tea in the morning, and the second shortly after, it’s the last slice of cake and the jam in your doughnut. OK, maybe it’s not, but for a while there I had you going...right?

Joking aside, Nuke Creative is about providing professional, creative, high quality and value for money design support, whether being hired by a fellow design agency as a freelance designer or working directly with our own clients. The company itself, well at least the name 'Nuke', was imagined way back in 1998 when I worked at a design agency in Leicester, before I set out as freelance designer. The idea of creating something from nothing was the initial thinking. Athough the name can be seen as quite aggressive, the idea and principles for Nuke stuck.

The identity has obviously grown and developed over the years but the core principles are still the same, creating something from nothing that breathes new life into whatever it’s designed for, whether it’s a marketing campaign for a new credit card product, a change in direction for another company brand or even a series of posters to advertise a friends charity event, it doesn't matter. I’m passionate about what i do, and strive to impress.

an experienced freelance designer

It seems like a lifetime ago since I began my career as a freelance designer in 2001, so much experience is quite difficult to sum up. In the beginning I worked mainly as a freelance graphic designer for exhibitions and print projects, with various web based work thrown in for good measure. In 2004 I began my first freelance design contract with Egg Banking Plc. After the initial contract period it was further extended each month and I’ve worked with the Internal Agency there ever since, building some fantastic relationships with clients and making many close friends in the process. Since 2004 my client base has gone from strength to strength and with the inclusion of agency work there has never been a dull moment.

As my freelance experience and skill set is so versatile I’ve been able to work on a wide variety of different projects in different industry sectors, learning new skills along the way and pushing boundaries. Some of the most rewarding and enjoyable projects I’ve worked on are the UK and European Toy Fairs, Alstom Conferences overseas and various marketing campaigns at Egg including the infamous guinea pigs.

The Toy Fair has been an annual freelance design job for me since 2002 for Toy manufacturers such as Vivid Imaginations, Corgi, Spin Master, Master Replicas, Halsall, Sablon WowWee, Tomy and Worlds Apart. My role on these projects over the years has developed as I have. I’m now responsible not only for the creation and production of all the graphics for the stands, brand licenses and theming but also project management with certain clients. Working closely with clients and suppliers both from the studio and on site in London and Germany is very challenging and equally rewarding.

Alstom conferences are another series of jobs that I enjoy. Again working with an existing brand, I love the challenge of pushing it further and taking it to another level which is ideal and lot’s of fun at events like these, creating an experience and environment that the delegates remember and that the client is proud of. The traveling isn’t bad either. As lead creative designer and on site project manager, my responsibilities cover the whole aspect of the job which has taken me on some extraordinary journeys over the years, from learning Spanish on the hop in Mexico to the windy city of Chicago and not forgetting the adventurous trips to Prague and Lisbon.
